Issuance of Travel Documents at the Diplomatic - Consular Missions of the Republic of Macedonia

A national of the Republic of Macedonia living abroad can obtain travel documents at the following diplomatic – consular missions:

Melbourne, Canberra, Chicago, New York, Detroit, Toronto, Berlin, Bonn, Munich, Stockholm, Copenhagen, the Hague, Brussels, Berne, London, Paris, Venice, Vienna and Ljubljana.

There are mobile units for administering passports at these missions operating three times a year.

1. ISSUING A TRAVEL DOCUMENT

In order to obtain a travel document, first you must announce your interest by phone and submit the application at one of the missions of the Republic of Macedonia listed above. Along with the passport, the following documents must be submitted:

First-time applying for a travel document

  • Citizenship Certificate of the Republic of Macedonia
  • Extract of an entry in the Registry of Births
  • Identification document issued by a competent body of the RM or the country where the document is being submitted
  • Valid residence permit  at the country where the document is being submitted (only for persons without a resolved citizenship status in the country where the application is being submitted)

Regular replacement

  • The expired old travel document
  • Valid residence permit at the country where the application is being submitted (only for persons without a resolved citizenship status in the country where the application is being submitted)

Duplicate travel document (due to loss, theft or misplacement)

  • Citizenship Certificate of the Republic of Macedonia
  • Valid residence permit at the country where the document is being submitted (only for persons without a resolved citizenship status in the country where the application is being submitted)
  • Extract of an entry in the Registry of Births
  • Identification document issued by the country in question or the Republic of Macedonia (ID card etc.,)
  • Police document (translated into Macedonian) of the report of the stolen, lost or misplaced passport
  • Personal statement signed by the party indicating that the travel document is lost, stolen or misplaced
  • The announcement of the loss, theft or misplacement of the travel document in the Official Gazette of the RM (the announcement may be done in person or by relatives living in the city of the regional units of the Ministry of Interior that has issued the travel document).

Early replacement (as a result of damage, coming of age, change of personal information etc.)

  • Submit the original travel document at the DCMs of the Republic of Macedonia
  • Valid residence permit at the country where the application is being submitted (only for persons without a regulated citizenship status at the country in question)
  • The old and valid passport is taken back and passed over to the Ministry of Interior for inspection
  • If the application is being made for new travel document when the old one is valid for a year beyond the moment of submitting the application, the old and valid travel document is revoked and passed over to the Ministry of Interior for inspection
  • If the application is being made for new travel document as a result of changes made to the applicant’s personal information, the application will not be processed unless the applicant has duly registered the changes made in his/her personal information at the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Macedonia and the changes have been entered in the mobile unit system

Applying for issuance of travel documents to minors

When applying for a travel document for a minor, both parents must be present at the diplomatic-consular mission of the Republic of Macedonia and they must submit an extract of an entry in the Registry of Births relating to the child in order to confirm the legal identity of the parents.
If one of the parents is unable to come, he/she must submit a power of attorney certified by the diplomatic – consular mission of the Republic of Macedonia, whereby one of the parents authorizes the other parent to submit the application for issuing travel documents to the child on his/hers behalf.
If the passport application is submitted by divorced parents, the parent that acts as the sole guardian of the child must submit the decision issued by the local competent court which declares him/her as the child’s sole guardian.

If the marriage is concluded abroad and the divorce is also finalized abroad, the verdict must be translated into Macedonian and verified by a competent body in the Republic of Macedonia.
If the passport application is submitted for a minor whose extract of an entry in the Registry of Births does not include one of the parents (the father), when applying for a passport only the child’s extract of an entry in the Registry of Births needs to be submitted.

2. ISSUANCE OF EMERGENCY TRAVEL DOCUMENT

An emergency travel document is issued to Macedonian nationals whose passport has expired, or the passport has been damaged, lost or stolen. Furthermore, the emergency travel document can be issued to a new born baby which as of yet does not possess a Macedonian passport and needs to travel urgently to the Republic of Macedonia..

Documents needed for receiving an emergency travel document:

  1. Application for emergency travel document filled out by hand (if the application refers for minors it is submitted by both parents in person or by the parent acting as the legal guardian).
  2. One photograph sized 3,5 cm x 4,5 cm
  3. Proof of identity (original and valid Macedonian or foreign document including a photograph). If the document for proof of identity is not submitted, the identity can be verified by certified witness statements, and the emergency travel document is issued upon the approval from the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Macedonia).
  4. Proof of citizenship status (valid ID card, passport or original Certificate of Citizenship of the Republic of Macedonia). If the proof of citizenship status is not submitted, the emergency travel document can be issued with the prior approval from the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Macedonia
  5. Proof of paid consular fee in the amount of 30.00 EUR, if the emergency travel document is issued without prior approval, i.e., 36.00 EUR, if the emergency travel document is issued with  the prior approval from the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Macedonia. Nationals with national currencies other than the Euro pay the fee in their corresponding national currency.
  6. For some countries, along with the emergency travel document a confirmation by the competent bodies must also be provided stating that the permanent travel document has been lost or stolen.

Important information:

The emergency travel document is a travel document that serves the exclusive purpose of returning to the Republic of Macedonia and is valid for 30 days from the date of issuance. Before travelling to the Republic of Macedonia you should contact the diplomatic-consular missions of the countries you transit through to learn whether you need to obtain visas.
