North Macedonia in the World

On 3 April 2016, a delegation led by representatives of the Holocaust Fund of the Jews from Macedonia, the Holocaust Memorial Centre for the Jews of Macedonia and the Embassy of the Republic of Macedonia in Warsaw officially opened the exhibition titled “Deportation of Macedonian Jews to Treblinka – 1943” at the Treblinka Museum.

This commemorative event was intended as a symbolic remembrance of the day when the last group of a 7,144 Macedonian Jews arrived at Treblinka death camp (03 April 1943) and was executed the same day.

The introductory speeches at the official opening ceremony were delivered by the Director of Treblinka Museum, Edward Kopovska, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of the Republic of Macedonia in Warsaw, Gorica Atanosova-Gjorevska, as well as Vice-President of the Board at the Holocaust Fund of the Jews from Macedonia, Martina Antik.

The event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps as well as high representatives of the local self-government.

After the opening ceremony, the delegation laid fresh flowers before the main memorial as well as before the commemorative stone placed in honour of the executed Macedonian Jews; accompanied by a prayer delivered by a rabbi from Katovice, Joshua Ellis.
