According to Bokova, this agreement will allow the increase of the Institute’s capacity for dealing with the effects of natural disasters, in spirit of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. She underlined that she is well acquainted with the work of the Institute and its beginnings with this being another step forwards in the overall excellent cooperation between Macedonia and UNESCO.

Atanasov thanked the Director-General for the current cooperation with UNSECO noting that the UNESCO’s support to IZIIS will strengthen the worldwide recognition of the Institute in both regional and international context.

The director of IZIIS, Garvski, expressed hope that this agreement would open new areas for cooperation between IZIIS and UNESCO, especially in terms of IZIIS experts participating in damage assessment missions after large natural disasters, as well as in organizing training and transfer of knowledge at international level, in which IZISS already has long-term experience.
