Registration in the Civil Status Records

Macedonian citizens can register themselves in the Registry of Birth, Deaths and Marriages at the diplomatic-consular missions of the Republic of Macedonia located abroad.

1. Entry in the Registry of Births

Documents needed to register the birth of a child born abroad whose parents are nationals of the Republic of Macedonia are the following:

  • Request  for an entry in the Register of Births of the Republic of Macedonia, signed by both parents. If only one of the parents is a Macedonian citizen, the other parent should provide written consent;
  • The original extract of an entry in the Register of Births, with Apostille seal, if the country is signatory to the Hague Apostille Convention;
  • Certified Macedonian translation of the extract (this is not necessary if the country is a member of the Vienna Convention on the Issue of Multilingual Extracts from Civil Status Records from 1976).

2. Entry in the Registry of Marriages

Documents needed to register a marriage concluded abroad in the Marriage Records are the following:

  • Request for an entry in the Registry of Marriages;
  • ID card of passport for identification;
  • Extract of an entry in the Registry of Marriages from the other country;
  • Extract of an entry in the Registry of Births (if the extract of the entry in the Registry of Marriages is incomplete);
  • Macedonian translation of the extract issued on a simple form, certified by the diplomatic-consular mission of the Republic of Macedonia.

3. Entry in the Registry of Deaths

Documents needed for registering the death of a Macedonian citizen who has died abroad are the following:

  • Request for issuance of a Death Certificate;
  • ID card or passport of the person submitting the request;
  • Death Certificate issued by the country where death occurred;
  • Legalized Macedonian translation for certificates issued on a simple form;
