The seventh meeting of the Standing Joint Border Committee with the Republic of Greece was held on 7 June 2019 in Skopje.

During the meeting, the delegation of the Republic of North Macedonia led by State Secretary Viktor Dimovski and the delegation of the Republic of Greece led by General Major Anastasios Spanos discussed the previously implemented activities regarding the placement of border buoys in Lake Dojran, the placement of border buoys in Lake Prespa to be implemented by the end of this year, the cleaning activities of the border line on the common state border to be implemented by mid-2020 as well as the activities related to land border markers.

In addition, the two delegations tackled the need for signing a new bilateral agreement which would govern the issue of preserving, maintaining and restoring the border markers on the border line between the two countries, as well as the issue of warning about, preventing, investigating and resolving border incidents since the existing agreement in force dates back to 1959.

The Standing Joint Committee welcomed the signing of the two bilateral agreements that foresee the opening of two new border crossings between the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Greece and voiced expectation that once the agreements enter into force both sides will undertake practical activities to achieve that goal.

The two sides have agreed to hold the next meeting of this Commission in Thessaloniki, Greece at the end of June or the beginning of July 2020.
