The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Dimitrov received today the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Finland to the Republic of North Macedonia resident in Belgrade, Kimmo Lähdevirta.

Minister Dimitrov wished Ambassador Lähdevirta a warm welcome and success in his new post, voicing confidence that the relations between the two friendly countries will continue to develop successfully throughout his term. Minister Dimitrov welcomed the start of Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU and thanked for the ongoing continuous support from Finland for our EU integration aspirations. In this context he informed his interlocutor about the democratic U-turn achieved by North Macedonia, underlining our success which is clearly reflected in the Report of the Commission, and which should be strengthened and confirmed by receiving a positive decision in October.

Ambassador Lähdevirta expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to personally contribute to the strengthening the Macedonian-Finnish friendship and to start his work in this important period during the Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU. He reiterated the support of the Finnish Government for our country in continuing with our reform agenda and receiving the well-deserved push forward on the road to realizing our strategic goals as soon as possible.
