Talks voiced mutual satisfaction with the current development of the friendly relations between the two countries and emphasised the commitment to advance the political dialogue and intensify cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, especially the opportunities for enhancing the economic cooperation.

Following the last Council of the EU, where Denmark took a constructive and positive position in favour of North Macedonia, the European perspective of the Republic of North Macedonia and the region was discussed, as well as the expectation and the next steps towards receiving a positive decision to start accession talks with our country as soon as possible.

State Secretary Popov emphasised that the political stakeholders in the country are unanimous in their assessment that there is no alternative to full-fledged EU membership and briefed on the more important achievements and results in key reform areas, noting that the European integration of the Western Balkans will increase the trust among neighbours and will strengthen the stability and prosperity of the region.

Ambassador Hougard underlined that Danmark supports the opening of accession talks with North Macedonia and welcomed the Government’s steadfast commitment to continue with the reforms for which we have their full support.
