The State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia, Mr. Zoran Popov met today with the Ambassador of the Italian Republic to North Macedonia, Mr. Carlo Romeo.

Satisfaction was voiced at the meeting with the successful development of bilateral relations between the two countries with an emphasis on the mutual efforts to further strengthen the friendly ties.

The interlocutor exchanged views on the perspectives of the EU enlargement process, as well as the next steps for opening accession negotiations with our country as soon as possible.

State Secretary Popov noted that the integration of the Western Balkans into the Union and the acceptance of the European values would strengthen the stability of the region, conveying the consensus of all the relevant political stakeholders in the country that there is no alternative to full-fledged EU membership. He thanked for Italy’s strong and continuous support in the Euro-Atlantic integration process and voiced satisfaction with the dynamic political dialogue between the two countries at the highest level.

Ambassador Romeo expressed confidence that Italy will continue to support N. Macedonia on its Euro-Atlantic integration path, sending a message that his country remains a strong advocate for the membership of all Western Balkan countries in the European Union, especially North Macedonia.

The interlocutors discussed opportunities for deepening the economic relations as well as opportunities for enhancing the cooperation between the two countries in other areas of mutual interest.
