On the sidelines of the Strategic Dialogue on the Western Balkans hosted by the World Economic Forum in Geneva, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Dimitrov met today with the Spanish FM, Josep Borell, nominated for the post of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, as well as with Clément Beaune, Adviser for Europe to President Emmanuel Macron.

During the meeting with the Spanish Minister and the next EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security, Borrell, opinions were exchanged on several topics with an emphasis on the expectations regarding the timeframe for the ratification of the North Macedonia’s NATO Accession Protocol given the upcoming elections in Spain as well as the European perspective of the region, North Macedonia’s EU aspirations and the next steps after the October Council of the EU. Talks also tackled the Summit’s outcome effect on the country and the region, the possible development of events in regional context as well as the priorities in the work of the EU High Representative. Minister Dimitrov, wishing him success in this important upcoming post, voiced hope that during his term the countries of the region will make a substantial and meritorious step towards the EU, stressing that: “European Western Balkan is a common strategic interest of both the EU and our region”.

Minister Dimitrov had an open discussion with the Adviser to President Macron, Clément Beaune, on how to ensure a common victory and success by addressing the concerns of France, the European Union, North Macedonia and the region.
