North Macedonia in the World

On 7 April 2016 an exhibition of art works by the International Art Colony “Kumanovo” was opened at the Embassy of the Republic of Macedonia in Paris and was attended by the Director of the Kumanovo Museum, Anita Cvetanovska and a representative of the Ministry of Culture, Irina Krotkova.


On 05 April 2016, the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Macedonia to the Slovak Republic, based in Vienna, prof. Dr. Vasilka Poposka Trenevska presented her credentials to the President of the Slovak Republic, H.E. Andrej Kiska.


On 3 April 2016, a delegation led by representatives of the Holocaust Fund of the Jews from Macedonia, the Holocaust Memorial Centre for the Jews of Macedonia and the Embassy of the Republic of Macedonia in Warsaw officially opened the exhibition titled “Deportation of Macedonian Jews to Treblinka – 1943” at the Treblinka Museum.

Every year, on 20 March, Francophones from all over the world celebrate the International Day of La Francophonie. The message sent by Secretary General of the International Organisation of la Francophonie (OIF), Michaëlle Jean, on this occasion, which is supported by the Republic of Macedonia is the following: The strong link we express this year brings a symbolic dimension and a specific emergency. For several months now, a number of countries in the Francophone fraternity, and many others, have been personally affected by cowardly and cruel attacks perpetrated in the name of an ideology of hatred. Let us seize the opportunity of this Day of La Francophonieand give meaning to the French language, making it a language of resistance by giving power to the words that unite us.

Today, on 21 March, a conference titled “My Friends, My Community – The benefits of inclusive environments for today’s children and tomorrow’s adults” was held at the UN Headquarters in New York on the occasion of marking World Down Syndrome Day which was organised by several Permanent missions of UN member states, the UN Department of Economic and Social affairs, UNICEF and the NGOs of International Disability Alliance and Inclusion International.

On 11 March 2016, the Embassy of the Republic of Macedonia in Kazakhstan along with “Turkish Airlines”, the KAZ-MAK Association and TURAN University held a presentation at the formal hall of the University presenting the tourism potentials of the Republic of Macedonia in front of over 70 representatives of travel agencies from Almaty, media, professors of tourism and students.

On 11 March 2016, the Thessaloniki public had an opportunity to get acquainted with modern Macedonian culture through the poetry evening event dedicated to academic Vlada Urosevic and the performance by “Ljubojna” at “Balkan Fest” where the Republic of Macedonia was proclaimed the honorary country of the festival.


On 7 March 2016, an exhibition of photographs by the Manaki brothers, dating from the period before and during the First World War, was opened at the Caen Memorial and includes over 101 photographs. The opening ceremony included addresses delivered by the Director of the Macedonian Centre for Photography, Robert Jankuloski, the Mayor of Caen, Joël Bruneau, French Ambassador to Macedonia, Laurence Auer and the Charge d'Affaires at the Macedonian Embassy in Paris, Gabriel Atanasov in the presence of the Director of the National Archives in Bitola, Aco Kimovski and the Director of the Caen Memorial, Stéphane Grimaldi.

From 26 to 29 February, 2016, Macedonian wines from several wineries in combination with yellow cheeses were promoted in Thessaloniki.


On 26 February 2016, on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of the plane crash that killed the former President of RM, Boris Trajkovski and the members of his delegation – a ceremony to pay homage was held at Matica Brda in Rotmile, municipality of Stolac near Mostar.
