Following yesterday's meetings and activities in Paris, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Dimitrov continues his European tour today, initially with a working visit to Brussels (10 and 11 September 2019), and subsequently to Berlin (11-13 September 2019). The focus of these meetings, in the key period for the European future of North Macedonia, will be the prospects and steps taken towards a positive decision by the Council of the EU in October.

On 9 September 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Dimitrov met with Amélie de Montchalin, Secretary of State for European Affairs at the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and Clément Beaune, President Emmanuel Macron’s Advisor on Europe.

Rekindling of the Eternal Flame ceremony held in Paris to honor 8 September for the first time since independence

Yesterday (Sunday, 8 September 2019), in honor of the Independence Day of the Republic of North Macedonia – 8 September – the traditional Rekindling of the Eternal Flame ceremony was held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier beneath the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Dimitrov met today with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of North Macedonia, Dirk Jan Kop. Wishing him a warm welcome and success in his post, Minister Dimitrov voiced confidence that the relations and cooperation between the two friendly countries will be furthered deepened throughout her term.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Dimitrov met today with the newly appointed ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of North Macedonia, Kristin Forsgren Bengtsson who presented the copies of her credentials.

 

On the second day of the Bled Strategic Forum, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Dimitrov took part in the panel titled “Western Balkans – Europeanization, Democratization, Shared Responsibility”, where he noted the need for accelerated European integration of North Macedonia and the region as a common strategic goal.

 

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Minister of Defense, Radmila Sekerinska and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Dimitrov, met today, on the sidelines of the Bled Strategic Forum with Matthew Palmer, US Special Representative for Western Balkans.

 

Today, at the beginning of the Bled Strategic Forum, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia, Nikola Dimitrov, had a bilateral meeting with the host Miro Cerar, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, where the traditionally close and friendly relations between the two countries were confirmed.

 

At the invitation of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and the Foreign Minister of Finland, Pekka Haavisto (acting as the country presiding over the Council of the EU), the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia, Nikola Dimitrov took part yesterday and today in Helsinki in the informal meeting of foreign affairs ministers of EU member states and candidate countries.

Today, in Helsinki, within the framework of the informal meeting of foreign affairs ministers of EU member states and candidate countries, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia, Nikola Dimitrov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides signed the Protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
