Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani started his intensive agenda in Brussels from the European Parliament, where he had meetings with influential MEPs, representatives of different political groups. During his Parliament visit, Osmani met withKláraDobrev, Vice-President of the European Parliament from among the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, Michael Gahler, German MEP ad member of the European People’s Party, Anna Fotyga, member of AFET and coordinator of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group, ReinhardBütikofer, member of AFET and coordinator of the Green Party.
At the meetings, Osmani reaffirmed the commitments of the Republic of North Macedonia to the European integration process, and he also presented the priorities during his term at the helm of the diplomacy of North Macedonia.
“I expect timely adoption of the negotiating framework, while taking into account the principles of the new methodology in the negotiating process. Ahead of us is a period of positive climate, hard work and a motive to deliver results from the domestic reforms. My focus is on deepening good-neighbourly relations, not only as our authentic benefit, but as an active contribution to regional cooperation as key policy for maintaining the European idea in the Balkans as well”, Osmani emphasized.
The MEPs underlined the strong support for the European perspective of North Macedonia, unimpeded progress of the European agenda of the country, adoption of the negotiating framework and organization of the first Intergovernmental conference. They stressed the importance of continuity of reforms for creating positive atmosphere for the start of negotiations, whereupon the continuation of the Jean Monnet Dialogue was announced, in order to intensify the cooperation between political parties aimed at inclusiveness in the negotiation process. It was highlighted that the concept of multiethnic and peaceful country devoted to finding solutions through compromise and dialogue is recognized as great success and it provides an example not only for the region, but beyond as well. Underlining the geopolitical aspect for the importance of EU enlargement with the region, it was unanimously agreed that the Western Balkans is important not only for the security and stability of the EU, but for the overall economic, political and social progress of the continent.
The meetings also considered parliamentary cooperation, preparations for the next EU-North Macedonia Joint Parliamentary Committee, and the plans and time frame for the preparation of the next Resolution of the European Parliament for our country were also discussed.
During the day, Osmani will meet the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, JosepBorrell, and the meeting with Miroslav Lajčák, EU Special Representative for the Western Balkans and the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue is also on the agenda for today.
