The Directorate for NATO and Political-Security Affairs prepares annual work plans and reports, and in accordance with these, carries out and coordinates activities and tasks related to the Republic of North Macedonia's membership in NATO. It monitors, analyzes, and reports on NATO's policies, activities, and developments; carries out and coordinates activities and tasks related to the foreign policy aspects of participation in peace support missions and operations, as well as security cooperation within the Euro-Atlantic area; proposes positions on current security issues and on North Macedonia's contribution to international efforts to address contemporary security challenges; cooperates with and coordinates the activities of the responsible institutions and state bodies; provides guidance and instructions to the Permanent Delegation to NATO and to other representations of the Republic of North Macedonia and monitors their work; collaborates with accredited representations of NATO member states in North Macedonia; manages and organizes the work of the sectors and departments within its scope; designs and implements the training program for employees prior to deployment to representations; evaluates the work of the organizational units and representations under its responsibility; and performs other duties within its area of competence.
Sector for NATO Policy Monitoring, Operations Planning and Monitoring, and Crisis Management
This sector performs the following activities and tasks:

Prepares annual work plans and reports;
-
Carries out and coordinates activities and tasks stemming from the Republic of North Macedonia’s NATO membership and monitors the implementation of political, security, and defense reforms in the country;
-
Carries out and coordinates activities and tasks related to the foreign policy aspects of participation in peace support missions and operations, and security cooperation within the Euro-Atlantic area;
-
Monitors, analyzes, and informs on NATO developments and relations; proposes positions on current security issues and North Macedonia’s contribution to international efforts to address modern security challenges;
-
Cooperates with and coordinates the activities of relevant national institutions and bodies; initiates and proposes guidance and instructions to the Permanent Delegation to NATO and other North Macedonian representations, and monitors their work;
-
Organizes and evaluates the work of departments under its structure; performs other duties within its scope.

Sector for Political-Security Issues and NATO Cooperation with Other International Organizations and Partner Countries
This sector performs the following activities and tasks:

Prepares annual work plans and reports;
-
Monitors NATO’s policy toward its immediate neighborhood and the NATO Open Door Policy and, within the relevant Directorate and in cooperation with responsible state institutions and bodies, coordinates the process of creating national positions regarding those countries/issues;

Monitors NATO's policy toward partner countries in various regions (Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council/Partnership for Peace, Mediterranean Dialogue, Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, Asia-Pacific partners);
-
Follows and participates in activities within NATO’s cooperation with other international and regional organizations; follows and participates in activities related to the security component of regional organizations and initiatives; follows and participates in activities from a political-security perspective in regional organizations and security forums;

Follows and participates in the Adriatic Charter partnership with the United States;
-
Follows and participates in regional-level activities (NATO's Southeast Europe Initiative, Southeast European Defense Ministerial process, Southeast Europe Security Cooperation Centre, etc.);

Initiates and proposes guidance and instructions for representations and monitors their work;
-
Cooperates with national institutions and bodies; collaborates with accredited representations in the Republic of North Macedonia; performs other duties within its scope.
Within this Sector are:

The Department for Political-Security NATO Cooperation with Other International Organizations and Partner Countries.
